Atalanta faced Manchester City

Can Atalanta finally win some points in their Champions League group? We will see on Wednesday, when the Italian team hosts Manchester City at the Stadio San Siro in Milan. Surely it won’t be easy for them, though.

This is Atalanta’s debut season in the Champions League, but so far La Dea are not having their best time in the tournament – they have three losses from three matches played. They have also scored just 2 goals, conceding 11. This is totally opposite to the way they perform in the Italian Serie A, but we guess the lack of experience is their main problem at the moment.

When Atalanta faced Manchester City at the Etihad two weeks ago, they conceded two goals and suffered a heavy 1-5 loss against Pep Guardiola’s team. The Italians actually managed to open the score in the 28th minute, when Ruslan Malinovskiy scored from a penalty kick. After this the Cityzens put their feet on the gas pedal and crushed the visitors with five goals in Pierluigi Gollini’s net.

How we said, Atalanta are doing much better in the Serie A. Right now Gasperini’s team is fifth in the Calcio standings with 21 points, having won 6 of their 11 games played so far.

You won’t be surprised that Manchester City are leading this group with a perfect record of 9 points after three games played so far. The English champions are having 5 points advantage in front of Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk, marching comfortably towards the 1/8-finals.

Right now Man City are in a run of five consecutive wins in all competition. During the weekend the Cityzens hosted Southampton and they recorded a very difficult 2-1 win at the Etihad. Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker saved City with two goals in the last 20 minutes of the game.

We expect to see Manchester City dominating the game against Atalanta at the San Siro, while the Italians will close down and wait their chances on counter-attack. This is not the perfect plan, but it’s the best Gian Piero Gasperini can do against the Cityzens.
