Atletico Madrid – Athletic Bilbao
Atletico Madrid are leading the standings in La Liga, but during the week Diego Simeone’s team offered a huge dissapointment to its fans. Los Colchoneros were shockingly eliminated from the Copa del Rey after losing with 0-1 their visit to Segunda B team Cornella.
In this game Simeone used some key players in the team such as Jose Gimenez, Felipe, Saul and Joao Felix, but this didn’t help his team. Most probably Atletico underrestimated their opponent and they felt huge regret after the game.
In La Liga things are looking different, though. Atletico are not just having two points advantage in front of second Real Madrid, but they also have two games in hand. This makes Atletico Madrid a huge contender for La Liga glory.
We can say Luis Suarez’ absence against Cornella was a problem for Atleti. The Uruguayan striker is a key figure in the team since his arrival from Barcelona. Suarez will be back in action against Bilbao on Saturday.
Just like their next opponent, Athletic Bilbao are also coming off a loss in their last game. During the week the Basques faced Barcelona at the San Mames Barria, but dissapointed the fans with a 2-3 loss against the Catalans. Athletic started the game in an impressive way as Inaki Williams opened the score after just few minutes of playing. Barca scored three times after this and Muniain’s goal in the last moments of the game was not enough.
That’s our preview for La Liga clash between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao at the Wanda Metropolitano. Is this going to be another step towards the title for Atleti? Let’s see.
