Champions League – Monaco-Atletico Madrid

Let’s take our attention to the beautiful Monaco, where we are about to witness some action from the Champions League’s Group A. Monaco are hosting Atletico Madrid and it shall be a pretty great game to watch.

Monaco are clearly not the same team they were in 2016/17, when they beat PSG for the title in Ligue 1. Most of the team’s stars left for other teams, which is the reason why they are not dominating French football anymore. The manager Leonardo Jardim is giving his best, but losing so many star players can’t be something to be just compensated that easily.

Despite all of this, last season Monaco still did pretty good, finishing second in Ligue 1 after the champion PSG. This allowed the club to qualify once again for the Champions League, which is important for them on financial basis.

Jardim’s team didn’t start the new season in Ligue 1 in the best way possible. After five rounds played, Monaco are currently 15th in the league standings with just 5 points won. They have a record of one win, two draws and two losses. In their last game Monaco made a 1-1 draw with Toulouse, which was their 4th consecutive game without a win.

Atletico Madrid are among the contenders to reach the final of the Champions League. Cholo Simeone’s team made it twice in the last few years, but both times lost against Real Madrid. Atletico’s biggest desire remains winning the Champions League for a first time and they will continue to pursuit it. You can be sure about this.

Right now Atletico Madrid are having some trouble with their form in La Liga, but they will try to forget about this when they face Monaco in their first Champions League game for the season.
