French Ligue 1 – Olympique Marseille-Montpellier

Olympique Marseille are still having a fight for a Top 3 finish and qualification for the Champions League. They currently have 62 points and 2 points advantage in front of the 4th Olympique Lyonnais. As it seems, the fight for the 3rd place in the league will be very intense until the end of the season.

Right now Marseille have a record of 18 wins, 8 draws and 5 defeats. In their last five games Rudi Garcia’s boys won twice, suffered two defeats and made one draw. In their last game Marseille achieved a 3-1 win during the visit to Dijon.

Montpellier on the other hand are 6th in the Ligue 1 with 45 points won. They have a record of 10 wins, 15 draws and 6 defeats. Montpellier are just one point behind the 5th Rennes, so they have a realistic chance to chase a Top 5 finish this season. Which would be a solid achievement for the club.

In their last five games Montpellier have a very interesting record of one win and four draws. It shows that Montpellier are a team which is hard to beat, but sometimes they have problems to win, too.

For Olympique Marseille it’s important to return to the Champions League. They are the only French club who have won this trophy and they have a place in the competition. Plus, they need the money which they are about to recieve from an eventual participation in the competition.

Of course, Olympique Lyonnais won’t give up without a fight. They are very close to the 4th place and they will do what they can to grab it.
