Paderborn – Schalke 04
Paderborn hosts Schalke 04 in a game from the fourth round of the German Bundesliga. Let’s take a look at this fixture at the Benteler-Area in the city of Paderborn, shall we?
Paderborn started the season with just one point won from three matches played so far. The newcomers in the Bundesliga won their only point so far in the previous round, when they made a 1-1 draw during the visit to Wolfsburg. Before this Steffen Baumgart’s team suffered two defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg.
In their last game in the league, just before the international break, Paderborn visited Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen-Arena and won a first point after a 1-1 draw. The Brazilian winger Cauly opened the score for the visitors after just 12 minutes of playing, but Wolfsburg’s Josip Brekalo equalised after the start of the second half. Still, it was a successful game for Paderborn, who won a point at a difficult ground.
In the same time Schalke 04 are currently 10th in the Bundesliga standings with four points won so far. The Royal Blues achieved their first win in the previous round when they hosted Hertha BSC at the Veltins Arena and enjoyed a solid 3-0 win. Hertha had the bad luck to score themselves two own goals in the game. Niklas Stark and Karim Rekik put the ball in their own net, while Schalke’s Jonjoe Kenny finished the job for the hosts.
This was a relief for Schalke’s manager David Wagner, because his team won just one point in the first two rounds of the league. Now the American manager can breathe more freely and work with his team in a more calm manner.
Can Schalke 04 achieve now a first away win for the season as well? Paderborn will have the advantage to play at home, so don’t underrestimate them.
