Southampton – Manchester United

Southampton hosts Manchester United in a fixture from the fourth round of the Premier League. These two sides are facing each other at the St. Mary’s in Southampton on Saturday. Let’s give it a look.

Southampton started the season very badly, losing their first two games in the league against Burnley and Liverpool. In the previous round the Saints finally celebrated their first win for the campaign, beating Brighton & Hove Albion away from home.

Ralph Hassenhutl’s boys used very well the fact that Brighton & Hove’s Florin Andone was sent off with a direct red card after just half an hour of playing. This allowed Southampton to dominate the game and take the win. Moussa Djenepo opened the score for the visitors in the second half, while Nathan Redmond decided the clash with a second goal.

Manchester United on the other hand continue to be a really strange case. The Red Devils impressed at the start of the season, scoring four goals against Chelsea. But something happened after this. In the next round United won only a point during the visit to Wolves, while in the previous round they suffered a surprising home defeat against Crystal Palace.

Marcus Rashford missed a penalty kick for the hosts, while Daniel James scored the only goal for the Red Devils. They could have won a point, but Palace took the win with a very late goal from Patrick van Aanholt. The truth is that David de Gea didn’t do very well in this situation as well.

The result against Crystal Palace raises some important questions: can Ole Gunnar Solskjaer do the job he was hired for? And did United make the right moves on the summer market? We shall see.

That’s our quick preview for the Premier League clash between Southampton and Manchester United on Saturday. We wish you good luck.
