Sweden – Ukraine
Not too many people expected it, but Sweden won their group with a record of two wins and one draw. They managed to get ahead of Spain and became the only team in the group to score two wins. The only time when the Scandinavians lost points was during the 0-0 draw with Spain in the first round.
This draw was followed by two consecutive wins against Slovakia and Poland. Janne Andersson’s team showed some impressive discipline in defense and conceded just two goals for 270 minutes of time. This aspect of their game would be crucial during the knockout phase of the competition there’s no doubt about that.
RB Leipzig’s midfielder Emil Forsberg is Sweden’s star in the competition so far. He managed to score three goals so far.
Ukraine lost two of their three games in the group stage, but the 2-1 win against North Macedonia was enough for them to reach the 1/8-finals. That’s something which the new format of the European Championship allows. Andriy Shevchenko’s team barely impressed us in its matches so far and it’s clear that they must improve if they want to qualify for the 1/4-finals.
There’s something in Ukraine’s game which just doesn’t click. Shevchenko has a limited time right now to fix the problem. If he don’t do it then the Ukrainians will go home.
That’s the preview for the Euro 2020 1/8-final between Sweden and Ukraine. Based on these two teams’ performance in the group stage, Sweden are the red hot favorite here. Janne Andersson’s team is unbeaten in the competition so far. Let’s see if they can keep it up.
